- I had the same problem with a few programs when I got my 28.8 modem. I found
- out the problem was that my conputer (a 4000/40) couldn't handle the
- information fast enough if it ran at 28.8kb constantly. Most programs worked
- in short bursts and everything was fine. I first noticed it in FTP. After the
- initial 20 second flood of info, the modem would sit around a while doing
- nothing and then disconnect.
-
- I learned, from this newsgroup, that the internal speed capability can be
- increased by reducing screen colors. Instead of trying that, I dropped the
- speed to 19.2kb even though it is a 28.8kb modem and I haven't had any
- problems.
